About Us

14 years of Tory austerity have left a brutal legacy in Islington and across the country. Rising poverty, inequality and homelessness have pushed our communities to breaking point.

Keir Starmer promised change, but under Labour things are only getting worse. A new round of austerity targets pensioners and disabled people, while the super-rich continue to thrive.

As a genocide continues in Gaza, Labour’s diplomatic and material support for Israel has been unwavering. Those raising their voice for peace and human rights face a climate of repression.

The government’s betrayal of those most desperate for something better has led to the predictable rise of the far right. Instead of offering a hopeful alternative to racist narratives, Labour are pandering to Reform, demonising migrants and bragging about deportations.

In Islington, residents now have a Labour council, a Labour mayor and a Labour government. But the cost of living and housing crises are only deepening, schools are closing and services are being cut.

It’s time for something new.

Islington Community Independents are committed to building a real political alternative: a grassroots movement dedicated to the redistribution of wealth and power to benefit working-class and marginalised communities.

ICI candidates are committed to:

  • Anti-Austerity: Opposing cuts that damage society and destroy lives.

  • Protecting the NHS: Ensuring the NHS remains free and accessible to all, not a source of profit for private companies.

  • Housing Justice: Demanding decent, secure, accessible housing for all, and pushing local and central government to cap rents and invest in council housing.

  • Climate Action: Promoting renewable energy and sustainable practices across Islington and fighting for a just transition that makes polluters pay.

  • International Solidarity: Supporting global justice, opposing racism and promoting resolutions to major conflicts including Ukraine, Sudan and Palestine.

Together, we can build a borough where every voice is heard and every resident matters.

Join us today. Be part of real change in Islington.
