Let me introduce myself. I'm Cllr. Phil Graham, I've been an Islington councillor for Bunhill ward for the last 8 years.
A little bit about myself. I spent most of my working life as a Union member and the last 29 years of my working life as a Industrial Relations Rep for the ASLEF Union on the London underground.
After taking medical retirement 9 years ago, I became heavily involved in Jeremy Corbyn's Labour Party, back when the name Labour Party still meant something. I resigned from the party when I saw what the new leadership was turning the party into.
Since being a councillor, I've fought tooth and nail for Bunhill residents, and I've been instrumental in ensuring that Bunhill is a great place to live. I've supported Soapbox Youth Centre since before I was elected and have been fortunate to be able to ensure that they have a sustainable future financially. I've also been supporting stall holders on Whitecross street. They've been suffering with poor paving and road surfaces, blocked drains , and increasing rents . I believe we should be supporting our small businesses much more than we are.
The residents on our estates need more support too. I've long campaigned against 2 tier housing. If you get a council property it will either be a new build , or it will be an older property with all the problems associated with older properties. While I applaud the councils' building policies, I am concerned about the number of older properties that are becoming more and more unsuitable. The council has cancelled at least 3 housing projects in Bunhill alone, and suffered with all the associated costs of cancellations which runs into millions. Millions that could have been used much better in our ward. If re-elected, I will strive to continue to be a voice for all Bunhill residents as I have been for the last 8 years.
I hope I can count on your support on May 7th. If you want to know more about the campaign against the Starmer candidates, and my fight against the rise of the far right please feel free to contact me.
